Self-catering holiday cottages in Stiffkey

The North Norfolk coastal village of Stiffkey is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has one of the richest salt marshes for wildlife in the country, providing excellent opportunities for both ornithology and walking straight from your holiday cottage.

Famous for its cockles, the “Stewky Blues”, which are given this name from being stained blue due to the mud they live in, Stiffkey is also known for its samphire which originally was thought of as the poor man’s asparagus but now features in many Michelin Stared restaurants as a delicacy, including Morston Hall which is found in the next village along the coast.

Stiffkey has a traditional county pub in the village with a stone floor, open fires and wooden pews. At The Red Lion, you can be assured a very warm welcome and discover delicious home-cooked food. They also pride themselves on using fresh locally sourced ingredients, such as Morston mussels and Cromer crabs – perfect for when you don't fancy cooking at your self-catering accommodation.

The stunning, award-winning sandy beaches at Holkham and Wells-next-the-Sea are just 4 miles along the coast from your cottage and, on your holidays, we would recommend taking a boat trip from nearby Blakeney or Morston to see the colony of seals at Blakeney Point – this is a unique experience to see wildlife in its natural surroundings. Also on certain trips, they land on the point, giving you a chance to stretch your legs on this beautiful strip of beach and walk to the old lifeboat house, now an information centre owned by the National Trust.

The oldest and most famous Wildlife Trust nature reserve is found in Cley just a little further along the coast road and the stylish market towns of Holt and Burnham Market are just a short drive away making it easy to see why Stiffkey is a very popular destination for a Norfolk break.
